In Tanya Dalton’s words: ‘An instant connection’

I’ve worked with The Human Connection Agency (THCA) since spring 2017. One of my friends, who is also a business owner, worked with THCA and was pleased with her results, so she introduced us.

At the time, I started understanding the importance of publicity. I realized it’s not enough to have a strong message if no one is going to hear it. And there really was only so much I could do on my own. I was wearing myself out trying to get my message out there.

I had previously worked with PR companies that made a lot of big promises. But, when it came down to it, they didn’t deliver quality work. It was just all about quantity.

When I met Brittney Lynn, the founder and CEO of THCA, it was an instant connection. I just love the way she works. Her team says they’re going to do something, and I don’t have to worry. I don’t have to follow up. I know they’re going to do it. They deliver time and time again, which is why I’ve worked with her for more than five years.

Working with The Human Connection Agency

I’VE HAD HIGH-QUALITY MEDIA PLACEMENTS IN FORBES, ENTREPRENEUR, REAL SIMPLE AND MORE IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS.

PR companies will often say they’ve secured clients placements in big-time publications. But it’s important to ask: When’s the last time they actually did this? It could have been 20 years ago.

THCA leads with integrity. They don’t talk about getting clients in outlets where they’re not doing that currently and consistently.

In the past 12 months, I’ve been in Forbes, Fast Company, Inc., Real Simple, Goop, Good Housekeeping and more. I’m also a VIP contributor for Entrepreneur. Entrepreneur is actually redoing its website and will feature its most prominent contributors on the front page. Thanks to THCA forging such a strong connection with them, I’ll be featured.

On the TV front, I’ve done KTLA, which is No. 2 in the nation. I’ve done D.C., Dallas, Houston, Portland — I’ve done a ton. The team is regularly pitching ideas to the top 25 TV stations in the country.

And the pitching piece of this is huge. THCA actually reads my book, and they find PR angles that had never even occurred to me. Not only that, they listen to my podcast episodes and pull insights from those as well. The team literally has pages of ideas, and, almost two years later, we’re still pitching ideas from my books.

I DID 60+ PODCAST INTERVIEWS FOR MY LATEST BOOK LAUNCH.

In addition to traditional media, THCA is also an expert in podcast pitching, which is rare when working with other PR agencies.

After my last book launch, I ended up doing more than 60 podcast interviews, thanks to THCA. The team carefully vetted each podcast to ensure it was the right fit and catered to my audience.

They also went above and beyond to ensure that not only I was prepared but also the hosts. The team put together a list of 20 questions hosts could ask me. This helped create more meaningful conversations.

I ALWAYS FEEL PREPARED, EVEN IN THE THICK OF A BOOK LAUNCH.

In the middle of a book launch, I’m getting pulled in 5 million directions. It’s not just about the PR. There are thousands of things that have to happen. It starts feeling chaotic, frustrating and exhausting.

But having THCA by my side for my latest book launch felt like having an extension of my own team. It felt like I doubled the team I had supporting me. That’s invaluable.

THCA does all the research, makes all the connections, organizes everything and ensures I’m prepared. Remember, I’m a productivity expert, so I’m super organized. But THCA consistently impresses me with its level of organization.

In the thick of the book launch, we kept in touch day-to-day, but I also received an email each Thursday that prepared me for the week ahead. This included calendar invites, Zoom links, background on the media outlet or podcast, information the reporter or host wanted to cover, and more. It was all right there for me. All I had to do was show up and share my message.

I trust THCA team implicitly because I know when they say they’re going to do something, they’re going to do it. I don’t have to follow up or worry about it.

“During a book launch, having somebody who’s in your corner, who understands the message you’re trying to get out there, takes a lot of weight off you and makes it so much easier.”

What sets The Human Connection Agency apart from other PR agencies

A common misconception about PR around book launches is that your publisher will handle everything for you. With a publishing house, they’re spread thin between several books and authors.

When my second book came out in October 2021, my publisher urged me to work with a more traditional PR agency. I reluctantly agreed but continued to work with THCA alongside the publisher-recommended agency. THCA was very gracious and understanding, and the funny thing was, THCA easily got me 25x more media placements than the other agency — and I’m probably underestimating that number.

I found out the PR firm my publisher hired was sending out cookie-cutter, generic pitches. They also came to me with no ideas; they expected me to provide everything.

Getting on podcasts is a big deal when it comes to publishing a new book. But the podcasts I did that were booked through the other PR firm were frustrating. I think all but one had male hosts — even though my book was titled “The Busy Woman’s Guide.”

THCA knows my voice because they pay attention. The level of care they provide is something you don’t see with those giant PR firms or with anyone who’s running a traditional PR agency. When they talk about human connection, it’s real.

Final thoughts from Tanya Dalton

If you had to do your next book launch without THCA, what would that look like for you?

If I had to… honestly, I wouldn’t want to. I would do everything I could to not allow that to happen because I know it would be so much more work, it would be so much more exhausting, and my message wouldn’t get out there the way it has.

How would you describe working with THCA in one sentence?

Having THCA working alongside you is really like doubling your team in the best possible way — they amplify my voice through their channels.

Would you recommend THCA to other authors?

I recommend THCA to anyone who’s publishing a non-fiction book. I always say, I trust them with my bank numbers and my mother’s maiden name. I trust them implicitly because I know them and I know their intentions. I know they’re out there presenting me with my best foot forward and positioning me in the best light.
