On today's show, I have Alli Hoff Kosik who is a freelance writer living in New York City.I found Alli's blog a few months ago while reading a Brit + Co article and quickly realized we had a lot in common. Show notes
In today's episode, you'll find out:
- What it was like for her to leave a dream job to work as a freelance writer.
- How she got started as a freelance writer.
- What she thinks people misconceive about being a freelance writer.
- What makes a really good pitch.
- Advice for people who want to bring into the freelance writing industry.
- The price range she gets paid per article.
- Her struggles with being a freelance writer and working for herself.
- Her proudest moment thus far while being a freelance writer.
- The one thing she'd stock up on if she found out it was no longer being sold.
In September 2016, Alli Hoff Kosik walked away from her what she thought was her dream job to pursue her love of writing professionally, with only a few contacts and a general idea of how to make that happen. Today, she is a full-time freelance writer. Her work has appeared in Marie Claire and on a variety of Web sites including Racked, Bustle, Brit + Co, Refinery29, and The Kitchn. You can also find Alli blogging at Finding Plan A. She is passionate about reading, running, rainbow sprinkles, her lipstick collection, watching embarrassing reality TV, and wandering her neighborhood listening to podcasts. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and (in her dreams, at least) three golden retriever puppies.
